Attractions City of Fes

The medina of Fes is the oldest and largest surviving medieval city in the world. Declared a UNESCO World Heritage site in 1999, Fes has a diverse and thriving arts community dating several thousand years.

Housing Options

IGSC students may choose from the housing options detailed below:
  • the American Center Villa
  • a Homestay with a Moroccan family
  • a hotel
  • an apartment

The American Center Villa
The villa is located ten minutes from the IGSC campus. With a large garden and a splendid view of the old medina of Fez, the residence provides a peaceful setting for studying and relaxing. Students living in the residence have either private or shared rooms and common kitchen and bath facilities. All rooms are furnished, have high ceilings, and many open out onto private balconies.

Costs: Depending on size and time of year, rooms range from 65-150 Dhs/night.

Payment procedures: Residents must pay the American Center secretary upon receipt of their housing invoice. Reservation procedures: Due to a limited number of rooms in the residence, the villa does not accept reservations for this housing option. Students are given rooms on a first-come, first-served basis.

Hotels
IGSC students may receive discounted rates at select hotels in Fez.

Costs: $5 /night and up.

Reservation procedures: Students wishing to have hotel reservations made prior to their arrival should indicate this along with their arrival date on their application.

Apartments
For lengthy stays, apartments can usually be found for IGSC students.

Costs: $200 /month and up.

Reservation procedures: The IGSC staff looks for suitable apartments before the arrival of students, but cannot guarantee availability. Upon arrival, students will be shown any available apartments and assisted in rental negotiations.

Other concerns: Students should be aware that there is not a wide selection of apartments in Fez and that looking for an appropriate apartment may take a few weeks. Very few apartments are furnished, so students should factor the cost of furnishing an apartment into rental costs.
